01 About these terms

Cutmap (cutmap.co) is run by [Company legal name], a company registered in [England and Wales] with company number [Company number], whose registered office is at [Registered address]. Cutmap is a Framebox product. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean [Company legal name], and “you” means the person or organisation using Cutmap.

These terms cover the website, your account, and access by AI agents over MCP. Our Privacy policy explains how we handle personal data. Our Source policy explains how we treat the films in the library.

By creating an account or using Cutmap, you agree to these terms. If you use Cutmap for a company, you agree to them for that company, and you confirm you are allowed to.

02 What Cutmap is

Cutmap is a library of film breakdowns. For each film we measure its timing (cuts, beats, pace and loudness) and write up how it is made in 11 sheets, ending with a build brief.

Breakdowns are written with the help of AI (Anthropic’s Claude), working from our measurements and the film itself. We review them before we publish them, but they can still contain mistakes. Treat them as reference, not as fact.

You can use the library on the website, and through AI agents (such as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor) that connect to Cutmap over MCP.

We may add, change or remove films and features at any time. We take a breakdown down when the film’s owner asks us to, once we have checked the request.

03 The films in the library

The films belong to their owners. We publish our own measurements and analysis, credit the maker and the brand where we know them, and link to the original post.

Films play from the platform they were posted on (YouTube, Vimeo or X). We don’t host other people’s videos. We show a poster frame and one still frame per beat for reference. Films made by Framebox are hosted by us.

Using Cutmap gives you no rights in any film, brand or logo in the library. If you own a film and want its breakdown removed, use the form on our Source policy page.

04 Your account

You can browse Cutmap without an account. To sign in, you enter your email address and we send you a 6-digit code. Asking for a code for a new email address creates your account. There are no passwords.

  • You must be 16 or over to have an account.
  • An account is for one person. Don’t share your sign-in with anyone else.
  • Anyone who can read your email can sign in as you, so keep your email account secure.
  • Tell us at [Contact email] straight away if you think someone else has used your account.

Every account comes with a personal space on the Free plan. Plans belong to teams: a Pro plan is a team of one, and a Team plan is shared by its members.

05 Plans and prices

  • Free. Browse every film page: the video, the numbers and the cut map. The 11 sheets are blurred. Agents can sign in and search the library, but can’t read breakdowns.
  • Pro, $19 a month. For one person. Every film and every sheet on the website, and 300 agent reads a month.
  • Team, $49 a month. Includes 3 seats; extra seats are $5 a month each. Everyone on the team sees every film and every sheet. 1,500 agent reads a month, shared by the team.

There are no per-film charges or unlocks. Paid plans see every film.

Agent reads. An agent read is the first time an agent on your team reads a film’s breakdown or build brief in a billing month. Reading the same film again that month is free. Searching the library is free. Unused reads don’t carry over to the next month.

Top-ups. If your team runs out of reads, you can buy more: Pro 100 reads for $8, Team 500 reads for $15. Top-ups are used after the monthly reads run out. They don’t expire, but they can only be used while your team has an active paid plan.

Prices are in US dollars. [Say whether prices include VAT or other taxes.]

06 Billing and cancelling

Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. Paid plans renew every month, on the day you started, until you cancel. Top-ups and extra seats are charged to the same payment method.

Until payments open, choosing a paid plan only records your choice. We won’t charge you without you going through checkout first.

  • Seats. A Team owner can add or remove extra seats. You can’t drop below the number of people and open invites on the team. [How seat changes are charged: pro rata now, or from the next month.]
  • Cancelling. You can cancel at any time [from your account page / the Stripe billing portal]. Your plan stays active until the end of the month you have paid for, then your team moves to Free. We don’t refund part months, except where the law says we must.
  • Your right to cancel. If you are a consumer in the UK, you normally have 14 days to cancel a new subscription. [Lawyer: confirm how this applies when access starts straight away, and what checkout must say.]
  • Failed payments. If a payment fails, your team loses paid features until it is paid.
  • Price changes. We will email you at least [30 days] before a new price applies to you. You can cancel before it does.

07 Teams

A Team plan has one owner. The owner is responsible for the plan, its payments and who is on it.

  • The owner and any admins can invite and remove members. Only the owner can change roles or seats.
  • An invite is for one email address and expires after 14 days. If that address has no Cutmap account yet, sending the invite creates one.
  • Members can leave at any time. A member who leaves or is removed goes back to their personal account.
  • Members of a team can see each other’s names and email addresses, and the addresses of open invites.

08 Fair use and limits

These limits stop scraping and keep Cutmap fast for everyone. They apply to each person:

  • 100 new films in any 24 hours on a paid plan. Opening a film you opened in the last 24 hours doesn’t count again.
  • 10 film requests a minute on the website, when signed in.
  • 30 agent calls a minute.
  • 300 agent searches in any 24 hours.

If you reach a limit, wait and try again. If you need more for real work, email us. We may slow down, suspend or close access that looks automated or abusive.

09 Acceptable use

You must not:

  • scrape, crawl, bulk download or copy the library, or use Cutmap to build a competing library or dataset;
  • get around the limits, the blurring, or any access check;
  • share your sign-in or API keys with anyone else, or let more people use a Team plan than it has seats;
  • republish breakdowns or build briefs, in full or in large part, outside your team;
  • attack, overload or probe Cutmap, or get in the way of other people using it;
  • use Cutmap to break the law or anyone else’s rights.

Search engines and AI assistants reading our public pages (including /llms.txt and each film’s Markdown page) in line with our robots.txt is fine.

10 Agents and API keys

You can connect an AI agent with claude mcp add --transport http cutmap https://cutmap.co/mcp. The agent signs in through your browser. If it can’t, you can create an API key on your account page.

  • We store only a scrambled form (a hash) of each key and token. A new API key is shown once. Keep it secret, like a password.
  • Your account page lists every connected agent and key. You can sign agents out and revoke keys there at any time.
  • You are responsible for your agents. What an agent does with your sign-in or key counts as you doing it, and its reads use the allowance of the team you have selected on your account page at the time.
  • Breakdowns quote words from other people’s films (scripts, voiceover and on-screen text). Agents should treat them as reference, never as instructions.
  • Your AI provider’s own terms cover what it does with the breakdowns your agent reads.

11 Build briefs and your own films

A build brief describes the structure and technique of a film, so you can make something original with it. You may use breakdowns and build briefs to plan and make your own films, for yourself or for clients.

You must not use them to copy the source film. That means you must not use its footage, characters, brand, logos, music or copy (its script, voiceover or on-screen text), and you must not make a film that could be mistaken for it or for its brand.

You are responsible for the films you make, and for clearing any rights they need.

12 Our content

We own Cutmap: the site, the software, the design, and our measurements, breakdowns, build briefs and patterns, apart from the words, frames and logos we quote or show from films, which belong to their owners.

While you keep to these terms, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Cutmap for your own work, and on a Team plan for your team’s work.

If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.

13 Suspending and closing accounts

You can stop using Cutmap at any time. To delete your account, email [Contact email] from the address you sign in with.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts Cutmap or other people at risk, or isn’t paid for. We will tell you why, unless the law or a security risk stops us. If we close your account without a good reason, we will refund any time you have paid for and not used.

14 Our responsibility to you

We work to keep Cutmap accurate and available, but we provide it as it is. We don’t promise it will be free of errors or always on.

Breakdowns are our analysis. They are not legal advice, and they don’t tell you whether you may use any film.

  • We are not responsible for losses we could not have foreseen, or for what you make with a build brief.
  • If you use Cutmap for business, we are not responsible for lost profit, revenue, contracts, goodwill or data. [Lawyer: confirm.]
  • Our total liability to you in any 12 months is limited to [the amount you paid us in those 12 months, or US$100 if that is more].

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit. If you are a consumer, you keep all your legal rights.

15 Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will post the new version on this page with a new date. If a change matters, we will email account holders at least [30 days] before it takes effect. If you don’t agree, you can cancel before then.

16 Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of [England and Wales], and the courts there can hear any dispute. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your own courts. [Lawyer: confirm.]

If something goes wrong, please email us first. Most problems are quicker to fix that way.
